Specialist Jeffery Ryan Whitt, 27, died by suicide Oct. 31, 2015, due to the effects of combat deployment, traumatic brain injuries, blast-wave injuries, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Whitt enlisted in the Iowa
Army National Guard and served in Afghanistan. He was assigned to the
HHC 1-133 infantry division motor platoon as a forward observer. He was an avid reader and loved the outdoors, hunting, shooting, and cheering on the University of Kentucky Wildcats. Whitt
is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; parents Jeff and Karen; and siblings Taylor, Alec, and Caeleigh.
