Workouts

Burdened Breakaway
The ultimate test of grit and strength. Athletes will carry a sandbag over a 100m course for 4 down-and-back laps (800m total). This event challenges strength endurance, grip, and mental toughness.

Workout
For Time / Distance (20:00 Time Cap)

Men: 100# Sandbag
Women: 50# Sandbag
Course: 100m straight line, marked clearly with cones or tape
Format: 4 down-and-back laps = 800m total
Open Division athletes may select whatever weight they like

Rules:

Athletes carry the sandbag continuously.
If an athlete sets the sandbag down, they must perform 8 full depth air squats before resuming the carry.
Time stops when the athlete crosses the finish line or the 14:00 cap is reached.

Standards
Sandbag Carry
Sandbag starts on the ground at athlete’s feet.
Any carry style is allowed (bear hug, shoulder, front rack), but no dragging, rolling or throwing.
Athletes may not interfere with other athletes on the course

Air Squat Standard
Athlete must bend knees and hips until hip crease is below the top of the knee (thighs below parallel).
Must fully extend knees and hips at the top.
Each rep counts only if both bottom and top positions are completed under control.

Tie-Breaker
If an athlete is time-capped, judges record the furthest distance completed rounded down to the nearest 50m. (Example, an athlete makes is to 640m within the time cap, their score will be 600m + their tie-break time)
Split times will be tracked at the end of every 200m (laps 1, 2, 3, 4).
In case of a tie, the fastest split time at the last completed 200m marker determines placement.

Burpee Barrage
For Time (9:00 Time Cap):

30 Assault Bike Calories
30 Med-Ball Sit-Ups (20#/14#)
30 Line-Facing Burpees

20 Assault Bike Calories
20 Med-Ball Sit-Ups
20 Line-Facing Burpees

10 Assault Bike Calories
10 Med-Ball Sit-Ups
10 Line-Facing Burpees

Athletes will complete a descending triplet of calories on the Assault Bike, med-ball sit-ups, and line-facing burpees. This event is designed to test conditioning, core endurance, and grit under fatigue.

Movement Standards -
Assault Bike

Monitor must start at “0.” each time - Judges will be responsible to reset the monitor
Athlete must remain seated on the bike until the required calories are displayed.

Med-Ball Sit-Ups

Athlete begins seated on the floor, back in contact with the ground, ball touching the floor overhead.
Rep is complete when athlete sits up, touches the ball to the floor in front of their feet, and returns back to start position.
No rebound or throwing the ball—must be controlled.
An abmat MAY be used, but is not required.
(Competitive Division will have 20# med ball for men and 14# med ball for women. Open Division may choose whatever weight they like, or no weight)

Line-Facing Burpees

Athlete must start perpendicular and facing the tape line.
Bottom position: Chest and thighs must touch the ground.
Hand placement: Both hands must remain behind the tape line at all times. If hands touch or cross the line → no rep.
Top position: Athlete must rise so both feet clearly return behind the tape line on the same side they started.
Athletes then step or hop over the line to the other side to begin the next rep.

Scoring
Primary score: Time to complete the workout.
Secondary (if capped): Total reps completed within the 14:00 time cap.

Tie-Break
Time at completion of the last full set of burpees (30, 20, or 10). Judges must record this time if athletes are time capped for the workout.

Flow Notes for Heats
Athletes start standing behind their bike.
On the call of “3-2-1 Go,” they mount and begin biking.
Athletes must complete the full round of 30/20/10 before moving to the next.
Once finished, athletes remain in their lane until all athletes in the heat are done or time cap is reached.

Crux Crawl
Overview
A skill-based climbing challenge. Athletes traverse a bouldering wall for distance. Precision, grip strength, and strategy will determine success.

Workout
Athletes have 3 total attempts to traverse the wall.
Scores will be based on how far across the wall you make it

Standards
Start: Both hands and both feet must be on the designated start holds.
Zones: Control of each zone requires at least one hand clearly on the marked hold. Judges will confirm.
Attempts: Athlete may drop at any time; attempt ends when feet touch the ground. The athlete must return to the start of the course on the next attempt.

Completion: A FULL traverse is complete if the athlete controls the final zone with at least one hand.

Scoring
Points are scored by demonstrating control over the zone hold. Athletes will accumulate total points across all 3 attempts

Pinch Parade
Grip strength and grit meet logistics. Athletes must move as many bumper plates as possible from Point A to Point B using only a plate pinch carry.

Workout
5:00 to move as much weight as possible

Move as much weight as possible across the parking lot in 5:00 using a plate pinch carry.
Distance: Approximately 60 feet between Point A and Point B.
Athletes may choose any combination of plates: 10#, 15#, 25#, 35#, or 45#.
Only pinch grip is allowed—no cradling, hugging, or using finger holes.
If a plate is dropped before reaching the full 60 feet, it does not count toward the score.
Athletes may rest as needed.

Standards
Carry:

Athlete must lift plate(s) from the ground at Point A and travel the full lane.
Athletes may use:

Both hands to carry a single plate
One plate in each hand
Multiple plates in each hand

Grip:

Thumb must be opposed to fingers in a proper “pinch” on the flat sides of the plate.
No hooking into the lip or holes.
There is a small lip on the plates being used (FringeSport Savage Bumper Plates) crimping the lip is allowed and encouraged.

Completion:

A plate is scored only when it fully crosses the line at Point B under control.
Plates must be set down under control—throwing is not allowed.

Scoring
Total weight of plates successfully moved in 5:00.
