General rules:

40 Men and 40 Women will qualify for day 2.
Athletes must wear shoes at all times.
Athletes are responsible for arriving at the meet the judge area at least 10mins before their start time.
Athletes must respect the event, the rules and members of staff, failure to do so may result in removal from the event.
Any appeals are to be taken up with the head judge only directly after your heat and should not be disputed on the floor.

Masters Age Group 40+ Division (UAE Residents Only)


The Crucible is proud to introduce a new Masters 40+ Division, exclusively for UAE residents. This category is invite-only and created to spotlight the fittest athletes aged 40 and above.


Competition Format:

•Masters athletes will compete on Day 1, completing the same event as the main field: Deadlift, Dips, and Run.
•A separate leaderboard will rank Masters athletes based on Day 1 performance.


Prize Pool (USD):

The top 3 Male and top 3 Female Masters athletes will be awarded:
•1st Place: $10,000
•2nd Place: $7,000
•3rd Place: $4,000


Eligibility for Day 2:

Any 40+ athlete who finishes in the Top 40 overall on Day 1 will qualify for Day 2 alongside the main competition field. These athletes will compete for the main prize pool, meaning they’ll have a chance to win in both the Masters and Open Divisions.

All interested 40+ athletes must register via the standard Crucible registration form. Entry into the Masters 40+ Division is by invitation only. We will
Notify you within a week of signing up. All participants that are not invited will receive a full refund.

Workouts

Time: 0:00–1:30
Task: 10 Rep Max
Score: Total Load
  • Athletes must load their own bar before the heat starts.
  • At the call of "Go," athletes have 90 seconds to complete 10 deadlifts.
Rep criteria:
  • A rep is given when an athlete is standing tall, with hips and knees fully extended and shoulders behind the bar.
  • A sumo stance is not permitted. Hands must be outside of the feet/legs.
  • All 10 reps must be completed within the 90-second window. Any reps not completed before time ends will not count, even if the bar has left the floor.
  • Athletes may not touch-and-go reps.
  • Athletes may remove their hands from the bar between reps.
  • Athletes do not need to control the lowering of the bar.
Additional Rules:
  • No warm-up reps may be performed on the platform. All warm-up reps must be completed in the designated warm-up area.
  • Failure to complete all 10 successful reps within 90 seconds will result in an adjusted score based on reps completed. Weight X reps completed / 10 = score
  • Failure to lift 100kg for males and 50kg for females will also result in a DNF.
Equipment Rules:
  • Belts (non-stretch, ≤13cm wide, ≤1.3cm thick) – Permitted
  • Weightlifting shoes – Permitted
  • Wrist wraps – Permitted
  • Chalk – Permitted
  • Knee sleeves (≤7mm) – Permitted
  • Knee wraps – Not permitted
  • Hand/finger tape - Not permitted
  • Elbow sleeves - Not permitted

Task: 20 x 50m Shuttle Runs (1000m total)
Time Cap: 5 minutes

  • Athletes will start behind the line.
  • At the call of "Go," athletes will complete 20 x 50m shuttle runs completing 1,000m.

Additional Rules:

  • Athletes must run around the column at one end without touching it.
  • Athletes must ensure one foot touches the line at the opposite end.
  • Athletes must stay in their lane at all times.
  • Failure to complete 1,000m will result in a DNF and no score will be awarded for this event.
  • Double points will be awarded for this event for all athletes that qualify for day 2, the additional points will carry over into day 2 only.

Time: 10:00–30:00
Task: 20 min for Average Watts
Score: Average Watts

  • Athletes start standing to the right of the bike, with one hand on the saddle.
  • At the call of "Go," athletes will ride for 20 minutes.
  • Athletes can choose any damper setting and sit or stand.

Rules:

  • Failure to start immediately at "Go" will result in disqualification.
  • Athletes must remain on the bike for the full 20 minutes.
  • Failure to maintain an average of 200 watts for males and 150 watts for females will result in a DNF score. 

Equipment Rules:

  • Clip-in shoes, straps, or buckles – Not permitted
  • Seat cushions – Not permitted

Time: 30:00–45:00
Task: 5 Rep Max
Score: Total Load

  • Begins immediately after the 20min bike event.
  • Athletes may rest as long as they like before beginning to load their bar.
  • All 5 reps must be unbroken and completed within a 15-minute window.
  • Athletes are allowed multiple attempts.
  • Once the bar has left the rack, athletes have 60 seconds to complete all 5 reps.


Rep Criteria:

  • Start with the bar in the front rack, standing tall.
  • Press to full lockout—elbows and shoulders extended, bar directly overhead.
  • Each rep must clearly pause below the chin before pressing.
  • The bar cannot move down before moving up.
  • No leg drive or foot movement allowed during the lift.
  • No leaning back allowed during the lift.
  • After a rep is given at the top, knees or feet can move to return the bar to the front rack.
  • The bar must be re-racked safely for the set to count.
  • Failure to lift a minimum of 40kg for males and 20kg for females will result in a DNF score. 


Equipment Rules:

  •  Belts (non-stretch, ≤13cm wide, ≤1.3cm thick) – Permitted
  • Weightlifting shoes – Permitted
  • Wrist wraps – Permitted
  • Chalk – Permitted
  • Knee sleeves (≤7mm) – Permitted
  • Knee wraps – Not permitted
  • Hand/finger tape - Not permitted
  • Elbow sleeves - Not permitted

Time: 0:00–15min
Task: 500m For Time
Score: Total Time

  • Athletes will start on the side of the pool.
  • At the call of "Go," athletes will complete 20 x 25m lengths (500m total).
  • Time cap to complete the swim is 15min


Additional Rules:

  • Any stroke is permitted.
  • Athletes can enter the water in any way they like.
  • Athletes may not hold lane ropes for support.
  • Athletes must stay in their lane.
  • Contact must be made with the wall at each end.
  • Requiring lifeguard assistance will result in a DNF.
  • Failure to complete 500m will result in a DNF and no score will be awarded for this event.

Time: 0:00–1:30
Task: 7 Rep Max
Score: Total Load

  • Athletes must load their own bar before the event starts.
  • At the call of "Go," athletes have 90 seconds to complete one set of 7 front squats.
  • All 7 reps must be unbroken and completed without re-racking.
  • The bar must remain in the front rack for the entire set.

Rep Criteria:

  • Squat below parallel (hip crease below the knee).
  • Stand to full extension (knees and hips fully extended, bar in front rack).
  • The bar must be re-racked safely for the set to count.

Additional Rules:

  • No warm-up reps may be performed on the platform. All warm-up reps must be completed in the designated warm-up area.
  • Failure to complete all 7 successful reps within 90 seconds will result in an adjusted score based on reps completed. Weight X reps completed / 7 = score
  • Failure to lift 60kg for males and 30kg for females will also result in a DNF.
  • Athletes may use a clean grip or cross-arm grip.


Equipment Rules:

  • Belts (non-stretch, ≤13cm wide, ≤1.3cm thick) – Permitted
  • Weightlifting shoes – Permitted
  • Wrist wraps – Permitted
  • Chalk – Permitted
  • Knee sleeves (≤7mm) – Permitted
  • Knee wraps – Not permitted
  • Hand/finger tape - Not permitted
  • Elbow sleeves - Not permitted

Time: 5:00–8:00
Task: Max Reps
Score: Total Reps

  • Men 10kg, Women 5kg
  • Athletes must be wearing the weight belt before 5:00.
  • The belt must be worn correctly with the plate between the legs.
  • Athletes will have 3 minutes to complete as many strict pull-ups as possible.


Rep Criteria:

  • Start in a dead hang (elbows and shoulders fully extended).
  • Pull until the chin clears the bar.
  • Return to the dead hang for the rep to count.
  • Legs must remain straight, and the weight must not swing.
  • No kipping, swinging, or momentum allowed.
  • Failure to complete 5 reps for males and 1 rep for females will result in a DNF score. 


Equipment Rules:

  •  Belts (non-stretch, ≤13cm wide, ≤1.3cm thick) – Permitted
  • Weightlifting shoes – Permitted
  • Wrist wraps – Permitted
  • Chalk – Permitted
  • Knee sleeves (≤7mm) – Permitted
  • Knee wraps – Not permitted
  • Hand/finger tape - Not permitted
  • Elbow sleeves - Not permitted

Time: 5:00–8:00
Task: Max Reps
Score: Total Reps

  • Men 20kg, Women 10kg
  • Athletes must be wearing the weight belt before 5:00.
  • The belt must wear the belt correctly with the plate between the legs.
  • Athletes will have 3 minutes to complete as many strict dips as possible.


Rep Criteria:

  • Each rep starts at the top of the dip, shoulders above wrists, arms fully extended.
  • Athletes must lower their shoulders below the elbow at the bottom.
  • Return to the full lock for the rep to count.
  • The weight must remain between the athletes legs, and must not swing.
  • No kipping, swinging, or momentum allowed.
  • Failure to complete 7 reps for males and 2 reps for females will result in a DNF score.


Equipment Rules:

  • Belts (non-stretch, ≤13cm wide, ≤1.3cm thick) – Permitted
  • Weightlifting shoes – Permitted
  • Wrist wraps – Permitted
  • Chalk – Permitted
  • Knee sleeves (≤7mm) – Permitted
