About This Competition

 

The Frontera Winter Classic returns this December. An individual competition built to find the Border’s Fittest.

Coming to you LIVE from Laredo, TX, the FWC is ready to set the stage. Join us this Saturday, December 6th for the best in-affiliate competition in Texas! 

The Frontera Winter Classic is a well oiled machine, with 10+ years of competition programming under our belt, the Frontera Winter Classic delivers traditional and highly effective tests of fitness. Expect fair judging, on time events, and a professional event feel that tests it all! 

Athletes will take on four scored events and a final to determine who rises to the top.

Divisions:
RX – for seasoned athletes ready to take on advanced movements and heavy weights.
*Cash prize will be awarded to the top finishers in this division.

Masters 45+ — adjusted for fairness — not comfort. Same intensity, same goal: find the Border’s Fittest.

Intermediate – for athletes with solid experience who want a good challenge without elite-level standards.

Scaled – for athletes new to competition or still building confidence in their skills.

WORKOUT DESCRIPTION
THIS EVENT FEATURES SIX 90-SECOND SETS WHERE ATHLETES MUST COMPLETE THE PRESCRIBED WEIGHTLIFTING COMPLEX. SETS 1-3 CONSIST OF ONE SNATCH (POWER OR SQUAT) FOLLOWED BY ONE OVERHEAD SQUAT. SETS 4-6 CONSIST OF ONE CLEAN (POWER OR SQUAT), ONE FRONT SQUAT, AND ONE SHOULDER-TO-OVERHEAD (PUSH PRESS, PUSH JERK, OR SPLIT JERK). ATHLETES MAY TAKE UNLIMITED ATTEMPTS WITHIN EACH SET, BUT WEIGHTS CANNOT BE ADJUSTED DURING THE ACTIVE WINDOW. ONCE A SUCCESSFUL LIFT IS COMPLETED, THAT WEIGHT BECOMES THE SCORE FOR THAT SET. ANY INCOMPLETE COMPLEXES WITHIN THE 90-SECOND WINDOW WILL BE COUNTED AS ZERO. THE ATHLETE’S FINAL SCORE WILL BE THE TOTAL SUM OF ALL SIX SETS.

WORKOUT DESCRIPTION

THIS EVENT IS 4 SETS LONG. EACH SET IS 2 MINUTES, WITH THE LAST SET (4TH) BEING EXTENDED TO 3 MINUTES.
ON 3, 2, 1, GO! ATHLETES WILL START ON THEIR STARTING MAT AND ADVANCE TO COMPLETE THEIR PRESCRIBED NUMBER OF DOUBLE-UNDERS (SINGLES FOR SCALED). ONCE ALL JUMP ROPE REPS ARE COMPLETED, THEY WILL MOVE ON TO THE LUNGE WALL BALLS AND COMPLETE THE PRESCRIBED REPS. ONCE COMPLETE, THEY WILL ATTEMPT AS MANY WALL WALKS AS POSSIBLE IN THE REMAINING TIME. 
THE ATHLETE’S SCORE WILL BE THE TOTAL TIME TO GET TO 25 WALL WALKS (30 SCALED) OR THE NUMBER OF REPS COMPLETED PER SET (INCLUDING JUMP ROPE AND LUNGE WALL BALLS).

WORKOUT DESCRIPTION
THIS WORKOUT IS FOR TIME. ON 3, 2, 1, GO, ATHLETES WILL BEGIN ON THEIR START/FINISH MAT AND MOVE TO THEIR DUMBBELLS TO COMPLETE THE PRESCRIBED NUMBER OF DEVIL’S PRESS THRUSTERS (DPT’S). ONCE THE DPT’S ARE COMPLETE, ATHLETES MUST ADVANCE THEIR DUMBBELLS TO THE DESIGNATED AREA BEFORE MOVING ON TO THE NEXT MOVEMENT. ATHLETES WILL CONTINUE THIS SEQUENCE UNTIL THE WORKOUT IS COMPLETE. A DPT IS CONSIDERED COMPLETE ONLY WHEN BOTH DUMBBELLS ARE PLACED ON THE FLOOR. DROPPING DUMBBELLS FROM ABOVE KNEE HEIGHT WILL RESULT IN A NO-REP. AFTER ATHLETES FINISH THEIR LAST SET OF MUSCLE-UPS, PULL-UPS, OR KNEE-UPS, THEY MUST ADVANCE TO THEIR START/FINISH MAT FOR TIME TO STOP. THE ATHLETE’S SCORE WILL BE TOTAL TIME OR TOTAL REPS COMPLETED BEFORE THE TIME CAP.

THIS EVENT IS FOR TIME. AT THE COUNT OF 3, 2, 1, GO, ATHLETES WILL BEGIN THE FIRST ROW PORTION. ONCE COMPLETE, THEY WILL MOVE TO THE DESIGNATED EQUIPMENT AREA, PICK UP THEIR WEIGHTS, AND PERFORM THE FIRST FARMER’S CARRY. WEIGHTS MUST BE RETURNED TO THE DESIGNATED AREA BEFORE MOVING ON TO THE SECOND ROW PORTION. ATHLETES WILL REPEAT THE SAME FLOW FOR THE SECOND FARMER’S CARRY AND THEN FINISH WITH THE RUN. THE ROWER MUST BE RESET EACH TIME, AND ATHLETES MAY NOT GET OFF THE ROWER UNTIL THE PRESCRIBED METERS ARE FULLY COMPLETED. RX AND INTERMEDIATE DIVISIONS WILL COMPLETE TWO 800M LAPS, WHILE SCALED AND MASTERS DIVISIONS WILL COMPLETE ONE 800M LAP. SCORE WILL BE TOTAL TIME.
